Characterization
Characterization Terms
| Term | Definition |

| direct characterization | The author tells the audience about the character |
| protagonist | Main good character; hero or heroine in a literary work |
| characterization | The way an author presents a character and reveals character traits |
| dialogue | Words that the characters speak aloud |
| dynamic character | A character that changes over the course of the story; usually one of the main characters |
| static character | A character that does not change over the course of the story |
| indirect characterization | The author gives the audience clues about the character through what a character says, thinks, and does and through how other characters respond to that character |
| antagonist | A person who is actively opposing or in conflict with the main character |
| motivation | Reason or force that causes a character to behave in a certain way |
| STEAL | what we use to remember indirect characterization (Speech, Thoughts, Effect on others, Actions, Looks) |
