occurs when the muscle shortens while developing tension. concentric contraction
..occurs when the muscle lengthens while developing tension. Eccentric contraction
...occurs when tension develops but there is no change in the length of the muscle. Isometric contraction
...occurs when the muscle shortens or lengthens while resisting a constant load. Isotonic contraction
...occurs when the tension developed by the muscle, while shortening or lengthing at a constant speed, is maximal over the full ROM. Isokinetic contraction
