ordinal Ordered by rank, no set interval
ratio Consistent interval, can have + numbers
interval Consistent interval, can have - numbers
nominal Categories not ranked by order
mean The average of a set of numbers
median The middle number in a set of numbers
mode The most frequently occurring numbers in a set of numbers.
frequency statistics Info related to how often a particular event happens in a particular set of data.
descriptive statistics Presentation of info related to one set of data
frequency of distribution A table that shows the frequency of various possible outcomes in a sample.
measures of variability How much the performance of a group deviates from the mean or median.
range The difference between the highest and lowest scores in a set of numbers.
standard deviation A computed measure of how much numbers vary around the average score.
Normal curve A bell shaped curve that describes the distribution of many types of data.
Inferential statistics Numerical to generalize something; to infer from sample data the probability of something being true of a population.
Sampling error The more bias there is in a random selection, the more flawed the data is.
Null hypothesis Hypothesis that has not yet been proven. Informed consent
random assignment assigning people to control and experimental groups
random selection every member has an equal chance of being selected so that it can be more likely to represent the target population.
