What are Diverticula, and what is inflammation of diverticula called? Diverticula small pouches in the colon that bulge outward through weak spots. Inflammation of diverticula is called diverticulosis.
Define dysentery, and what is the most common cause of dysentery worldwide? Dysentery is inflammation of the intestinal tract that is associated with frequent bloody stools, mucus, pus and increased leukocytes or PMN's. Shigella is the most common cause of dysentery.
Define gastroenteritis, and what is the most common cause of gastroenteritis worldwide? Gasteroenteritis is inflammation of the mucosa of the stomach and intestines. Campylobacter major cause of gastroenteritis.
What does GERD stand for, and what is another name for it? Gastroesophageal reflux disease, also known as "heartburn"
What is IBD, and name one type of IBD we talked about Irritable Bowel Syndrome - disorders of the normal functions of the large intestine and is characterized by cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhea. Crohn's Disease is a type of IBS.
