What kind of consent is needed before an invasive procedure or CT exam? Informed Consent
What is considered Informed Consent? When the procedure including risks, benefits, & possible alternatives are explained and understood. Usually must be in patients home language.
If the patient is unable to sign informed consent form who can their place? Legal representative, parent, or guardian
What is it called when a patient is unable to give consent d/t unconsciousness, or others factors but assumption that the patient would consent if able to? Implied Consent (CPR choking)
What can the technologist do prior to the exam to ensure optimal exam quality? By communication; all contraindications, feelings, concerns, breathing instructions, bathroom use prior to contrast, side effects, metallic taste, removal of high density objects (ie barrettes, dentures) & comfort.
Give some examples of patient immobilization cushions, straps, safety devices, and the breath hold technique (giving visual demonstrations of proper breathing) especially chest & abd
Why is obtaining an accurate & pertinent PT Hx so important? All information can assist the Rad is Dx.
What are the general practices and information needed when obtaining an accurate PT Hx? Non-leading, open-ended questions, Focused questioning & repeating to gain a clear understanding of information obtained. Recent procedures, surgeries; possible trauma, & specific areas of pain, discomfort, & symptoms.
What are normal ranges for the following vital signs? 1)temp 2)pulse; adult & peds 3)BP 4) Resp 5)Pulse Ox 1)97.7 - 99.5 2)Adults 60-100 bpm, Peds 70 - -120 bpm 3)120/80 (s/d) 4)Adult 12-20, Peds 20 - 30 5)95-100%

What determines a PTs heart rate? The cardiac cycle
What is relaxation of the heart muscle called? Diastole
What is the contraction of the heart muscle called? Systole
What is a graphic representation of the electrical activity of the heart? ECG/EKG
Slower the heartbeat the better... quality of the cardiac imaging
What is the preferred heart rate for optimal imaging? 65 bpm
What pre-med can be given to PT to slow heart rate? B Blockers/ B-Androgenic receptor blocking agents (AKA Beta Blockers)
At what level of scanning do you not need to worry of heart rate as much? newer systems, 64 slice level and beyond
What can be taken prior to a cardiac MSCT to cause dilation of the coronary vessels? and why? Sublingual Nitroglycerine , improving visualization
Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) 7-25 mg/dL
Creatinine (Cr) 0.5-1.5 mg/dL
Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) 70 +- 14 mL/min/m2 men 60 = - 10/mL/min/m2 women
Prothrombin Time (PT) 12-15 seconds
Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT) 25-35 secs
International Normalized Ration (INR) 0.8-1.2
Platelet Count 140,000-440,000 ul of blood
What are laboratory values used to indicate renal function? BUN & Creatinine
Which is more accurate BUN or Cr? Cr
What is an even more accurate measurement of renal function? GFR
What factors contribute to a GFR reading? Cr level, age, sex, & race
What is the measurement of blood coagulation? Prothrombin Time (PT)
How is PT measured? in the lab by adding a protein to the blood called tissue factor
