Electrical Energy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| electric energy | a type of energy produced by moving electric particles that flow through a circuit. |
| circuit | the pathway through which electric currents flow |
| current | the flow of electricity around a circuit (path) |
| series circuit | an electric circuit in which the electrical current only has one path to travel (follow). |
| parallel circuit | an electric circuit that has more than one path for the electric current to travel |
| closed circuit/ complete circuit | a circuit that is “complete” and has no “breaks” in the path which allows the electric current to flow |
| open circuit/ incomplete circuit | a circuit that is “incomplete” and has “breaks” in the path which does not allow the electric current to flow |
| electromagnet | a temporary magnet created by passing an electric current through an iron object. It can be turned on/off. |
| battery | a limited, chemical source of electric energy often used in objects requiring electricity to operate |
| electric conductor | a material that does allows electric currents to flow |
| electric insulator | a material that does NOT allow electric currents to flow |
| fuse | a device that causes electricity to stop flowing when a current becomes too strong |
| switch | a small device that starts or stops the flow of electricity to something (such as a lamp or a machine) when it is pressed or moved up and down |
