Pharmacology for Pulmonary Disease Management

| Antihistamine Agents | Block affects of histamine; decreased nasal drainage, mucosal irritation, symptoms of cold and sinus, sinusitis, conjunctivitis and allergies |
| Anti-Inflammatory Agents | inhaled corticosteroids, leukotriene modifiers, and mast cell stabilizers; help prevent inflammatory-mediated bronchoconstriction; inhibits inflammatory cells, release of inflammatory mediators and reverses capillary permeability; Reduces airway edema |
| Bronchodilator Agents | relieve bronchospasm by stimulating receptors that cause bronchial smooth mm relaxation or blocking the receptors that triggerbronchoconstriction |
| Expectorant Agents | increase respiratory secretion and loosen mucus; Reduces viscosity of secretions and increase sputum volume |
| Mucolytic Agents | Decrease viscosity of mucus by altering composition and consistency; easier expectorant; using a nebulizer |
