Science Vocab Matter


Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Density A physical property in which mass is divided by volume.
Physical Property Any characteristics of an object that can be observed by your senses.
Chemical Property Any characteristics that allows a substance to change.
States of Matter Physical property of gas, liquid, solid, or plasma.
Physical Change A change in an object’s physical properties.
Chemical Change A change in which a substance breaks down and its atoms are used to create a different substance
Melting Point Temperature at which a solid becomes a liquid. 32 F or 0 C
Boiling Point Temperature at which a liquid becomes a gas. 212 F or 100 C
Sublimation – going from a solid state of matter to a gaseous state of matter without becoming a liquid Going from a solid state of matter to a gaseous state of matter without becoming a liquid
