| colloid | mixture in which the particles are large enough to scatter light but do not settle out |
| compound | a molecule that has two different elements bonded together |
| element | a pure substance that cann not be separated by physical means |
| heterogeneous | a mixture in which the parts do not combine evenly |
| homogeneous | a mixture in which the the part are uniformly distributed |
| mixture | a combination of two or more substances not chemically combined , in which each substance keeps it's own properties and which can be separated physically |
| molecule | formed when two or more elements are joined together chemically |
| solute | A substance to be dissolved |
| solution | a homogeneous mixture that looks like one substance |
| solvent | a substance in which the solute is dissolved in |
| suspention | a mixture in which the particles can be seen with the naked eye and in which the particles are large enough to will settleout over time |
| metal | shiny, conducts heat and electricity |
| nonmetal | dull in appearance, does not conduct heat or electricity |
| metalloid | has properties of both metals and nonmetals |
