Acne Inflammation of the skin caused by increased activity of the sebacious gland which produces oil. Benzyl Peroxide, Tetracycline, Zithromax.

candidiasis thrush or baginal yeast infection.
ringworm microscopic fungus that infects the horny or scaly layer of the skin or nail.
Athletes foot can occur on other body parts, tinea pedis, tinea capitus, tinea curvs. TX: Betinafin, Lotrimin, Ultra, Terbinafin, Lamisil AT.
Candidiasis Tx: Lotrimin, Gyno-Lotrimin, Mycelex, Mycelex Trache
systemic mycosis condition in which fungi infects the entire body and can cause death.

atopic. on top of the skin. disorder only on top of skin.
photosensitivity sensitivity to the sun. caused by many meds.

DRUGS THAT CAUSE PHOTOSENSITIVITY Antibiotics, quinilones, cipro, levaquin, sulfa, tcn. Antihistamines: Benadryl. Cardiovascular drugs: Amuroterone, Sotalol. Antipsychotics: Geodon. All chemo agents. Diuretics, Lasix, thiazides. All NSAIDS.
rash condition characterized by redness and inflammation, common allergy: poison ivy, oak. called contact dermatitis.
creams prescribed by physicians. treats wet, oozing lesions.
ointments prescribed by dermatologists. treats dry skin conditions. Creams and ointments are not interchangeable.
Eczema inflammatory skin condition characterized by redness, itching, blistering, and oozing. Tx. Elidel
Protopic eczema use tacrolimus ointment for severe.
Psoriasis Chronic, non-contageous condition in which epidermis cells multiply and die at and excessive rate, producing patches of red, scaly skin. caused by genetics or emotional stress. Tx: Remcade, Embrel subq, Raptiva subq, oral elidel.
dandruff skin from scalp. Tx: selsun blue, head and shoulders, Denorex. Selenium sulfide is the active ingredient.
Rosacea Chronic disorder with an inflammatory vascular componant. Tx: Azelex or oral Oracea.
Epstein-Barr Virus causes shingles, chicken pox, herpes, cold sores, warts. Shingles highly contageous and painful. Tx: Acyclovir (Zovirax). Caused by strep virus. Bactroban.

scabies starts on surface then burrows into skin.
pediculosis infestation with lice, head, body and pubic ()crabs. TX: Eurax cream, lotion, prescription Lindane shampoo, lotion. Elmite, Nix, Red.
herpes simplex I virus causes shingles, cold sores, warts, iimpetigo.
BURNS--CAUSE thermal (by heat or fire), chemical (acid or bases, bleaches or insectasides), Electrical (contact with electrical current). Friction (harsh rubbing of the skin).
FIRST DEGREE LIMITED DAMAGE TO THE SKIN (EPIDERMIS). Limited to top layer.
SECOND DEGREE Dermis and epidermis burned. Pain, redness, blistering, mild to moderate edema, moderate burn.
THIRD DEGREE Destruction of epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. Leathery, dry, white, black or cherry red appearance. No blistering. No tissue left to blister. Critical burn.
FOURTH DEGREE Total destruction of all skin tissue, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones. Critical to fatal in nature.
RULE OF NINES Percentages assigned to body parts to determine the percentage of the body that is burned.

Actinic keratosis pre-cancerous condition from sun.
Basil Cell Carcinoma Most common skin cancer.
Keratoacanthoma Epithelial tumor that grows rapidly but heals itself in time.
Melanoma Highly malignant that forms from melanocytes.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma Most rapid growing skin cancer. May or may not metastasize.
