Uses of Kaltenborn

TermDefinition
Grade 1 A distraction force used with all gliding motions; also used for pain
Grade 2 Distraction applied to assess joint reaction; this reaction indicated either increased of decreased distraction: Gentle grade 2 is used intermittently to inhibit pain; used to maintain joint play when ROM is not allowed
Grade 3 Distractions and glides are used to stretch the joint structures to increase joint play
