Uses of Maitland

Grades 1 & 2 Primarily used to limit pain by simulating mechanoreceptors that block nociceptive pathways at the brain or spinal cord level and inhibit the perception of pain
Grades 3 & 4 Primarily used for stretch maneuvers
physiological or joint play motions used in mobilization techniques
