Wave A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place.
Energy The ability to do work or cause change.
Amplitude The maximum distance the particles of a medium move away from their rest positions as a wave passes through the medium.
Wavelength The distance between two corresponding parts of a wave.
Frequency The number of complete waves that pass a given point in a certain amount of time.
Vibration A repeated back-and-forth or up-and-down motion.
Crest The highest part of a transverse wave.
Trough The lowest part of a transverse wave.
Resting Position An object that is not moving or at rest.
Mechanical waves A wave that transfers energy to a medium
Medium The material through which a wave travels.
Damping The storage for energy
Speed The rate at which someone or something is able to move or operate
Electromagnetic Spectrum The complete range of electromagnetic waves placed in order of increasing frequency.
Electromagnetic Wave Wave that transfer electric and magnetic energy through the vacuum of space.
Visible Light Electromagnetic waves that are visible to the human eye.
Opaque Material that reflects or absorbs all of the light that strikes it.
Primary colors Three colors that can be used make any other color.
Primary colors of light Red, green, and blue
Angle of incidence The angle that an incident line or ray makes with a perpendicular to the surface at the point of incidence.
Law of Reflection The rule that the angle of reflection equals the angle of incidence.
Plane Mirror A flat mirror that produces an upright, virtual image the same size as the object.
Concave Mirrors A mirror with a surface that curves inward.
Convex Mirrors A mirror with a surface that curves outward.
Refraction The bending of waves as they enter a new medium at an angle.
Lens A curved piece of glass or other transparent material that is used to refract light.
Convex Lens A lens that is thicker in the center than at the edges.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.
