Mechanism of action | 1. Decrease hepatic uptake of free fatty acids (decrease triglyceride production) 2. Inhibits lipolysis of fat (breakdown of of fats and lipids by hydrolysis to release fatty acids) |
Therapeutic Effect | 1. primary triglyceride lowering agents 2. some effect on total cholesterol |
Precautions | 1. Renal or hepatic dysfunction 2. Multiple drug interaction; HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor |
Contraindications | Severe kidney, liver, or gall bladder disease |
Side Affects | Abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, headache |
Nursing actions | 1. Follow lipid profile 2. Caution when other drugs given concurrently |
