The Biological Perspective

TermDefinition
Neuron Specialized cell in the nervous system that receives and sends messages
Dendrite Part of the cell that contains the nucleus and keeps the entire cell alive and functioning
Axon Fiber attached to the soma; carries messages to other cells
Gial cells Serves as a structure where neurons develop and work, holding the neuron in place
Myelin Fatty substance around shaft of axons, providing insulation and a protective sheath
Diffusion Process of ions moving from high concentration to areas of low concentration
Receptor sites Proteins that are on the surface of each cell
