| solutions | A type of homogenous mixture in which the particles of one or more substances are distributed uniformly throughout another substance |
| suspension | a heterogeneous mixture in which solute-like particles settle out of a solvent-like phase some time after their introduction |
| colloids | a mixture in which one substance of microscopically dispersed insoluble particles is suspended throughout another substance |
| physical properties | any property that is measurable |
