What are the reasons teachers want to teach? Desire to work with children and young people, a passion for teaching, desire to serve.
Define student variability. Differences among students in regard to their developmental needs.
Define student diversity. Differences among students in regard to gender, race, ethnicity, culture, and socioeconomic status?
How much time does the average teen spend daily with technology? Approximately nine hours a day.
What does society expect out of teachers? Teachers are expected to have public trust, teacher competency/effectiveness, and teacher accountability.
What is tenure? Job security after working in a school for a specific amount of years. It varies based on your state of residence.
How many teachers are in the U.S.? 3.1 million
What is the racial/gender makeup of most teachers? White women
What does IEP stand for? Individualized Education Plan, awritten statement for a child with a disability that is developed, reviewed, and revised in a meeting in keeping with certain requirements of law and regulations.
How much time of does the average teen using technology? 9 hours a day typically
What is High Stakes Testing? Any test used to make important decisions about students, educators, schools, or districts, most commonly for the purpose of accountability
What are the challenges of teaching? Long working hours, overcrowded classrooms, salary, time management issues
What is peer coaching? A process when two or more colleagues work together to reflect on current practices, refine skills, share ideas, and teach one another.
What are some challenges of teaching tech savvy students? Students having more knowledge about the technology being used than the teacher.
What are Chater schools? A publicly funded independent school established by teachers, parents, or community groups under the terms of a charter with a local or national authority.
What is alternative certification? Alternative teacher certification is a process by which a person is awarded a teaching license even though that person has not completed a traditional teacher certification program.
What types of technology do teachers use in the classroom? Smartboards, laptops, iPads, printers, many more
What are some specialized areas of teaching? Art, band, music, dance, chorus, many more
What is vocational teaching? Teachers that prepare students for careers that require a specific set of skills rather than preparing them for bachelor's degrees.
Does Sussex Tech participate in vocational teaching? Yes, classes such as Early Childhood Education, Business Management, Environmental, Athletic Health Care, etc.
