Gas Matter that has no definite shape and no definite volume.
Kinetic Energy The energy an object has due to motion.
Temperature The measure of the average kinetic energy of all the particles in an object.
Phase Change When matter changes between a solid, liquid, or a gas.
Melting When a solid changes to a liquid.
Freezing When a liquid changes to a solid.
Vaporization When a liquid changes to a gas.
Boiling When a liquid changes to a gas. Occurs under/below the surface of a liquid.
Evaporation When a liquid changes to a gas. Occurs at the surface of a liquid.
Condensation When a gas changes to a liquid.
Sublimation When a solid changes to a gas.
Deposition When a gas changes to a solid.
Physical Property A characteristic you can observe or measure without changing the identity of the substance.
Chemical Property Describes matter based on its ability to change into a new substance with different properties.
Physical Change When one or more of its properties changes but doesn't change into a new substance.
Chemical Change When one or more new substances are made that have new and different properties.
Water Vapor Water in the gas state of matter.
Pressure The amount of force applied.
Vacuum An area that does not have any matter in it.
