Nutrients Macro- (carbs, fats, protein) ; Micro- (vitamins and minerals)
Water Helps maintain body temperature, helps get rid of waste, drink same amount as lost
Fat Easiest to store, brain development, nerve function, controls inflammation, helps clotting blood, needed for proper hormone production, saturated, unsaturated, trans
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Exercise muscle mass, eating, can decrease if you skip meals
Basic Metabolic Rate (BMR) Amount of calories to sustain life (female=1200 cal, male=1500 cal)
Carbohydrates Made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and is the primary energy source used by the body; lowers risk for chronic disease; vegetable, fruits (starch)
Metabolism Rate at which a body burns calories.
Protein Repairs and maintains the body; fish, meet, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, beans; healthy blood cells; strengthens immune system.
Nutrition Process of consuming the foods you need for health and growth because your body breaks down and rebuild cells 24/7.
Benefits of Good Nutrition Keeps body strong and healthy; prevents diseases (#1); obesity, diabetes, cancer; boosts immune system; delay effects of aging.
