Definitions for fractions

denominator the number below the fraction bar in a fraction
numerator the number above the fraction bar in a fraction
mixed number combines a whole number and a fraciton
improper fraction is a fraction in which the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator
proper fraction is a fraction in which the numerator is smaller than the denominator
simplified fraction a fraction that has a numerator and denominator in lowest terms
to reduce or simplify a fraction finding a common factor you can divide the numerator and denominator by to get the fraction in lowest terms
GCF the greatest common factor used when simplifying fractions
prime number a whole number greater than 1 with exactly two factors, one and itself
composite number a whole number greater than 1 with more than two factors
