Literary Terms

| alliteration | repetition of the initial consonant sound in two or more neighboring words |
| adjective | word that describes a nous |
| audience | The specified or implied person(s) to whom the writer is writing to |
| bias | An inclination or tendency towards an idea |
| dialogue | A conversation between two or more people |
| evidence | support for a main idea or claim |
| genre | Categories of text including broad ones like fiction and nonfiction |
| hyperbole | An intentional exaggeration for emphasis or comic relief |
| metaphor | A comparison between two seemingly unlike things |
| mood | The atmosphere a writer creates to bring out certain feelings in a reader |
| myth | A traditional story passed down through generations that explains why the world is the way it is |
| paraphrase | rewording or restatement from a text |
| sensory language | Use of details from the 5 senses to appeal to the reader |
| structure | The way text is organized |
| theme | The underlying meaning of a literary text |
