| conduction | The transfer of heat energy within an object, or between objects that are directly touching each other, due to collisions between the particles in the objects |
| mechanical energy | Energy that an object has because of its motion or its position |
| electrical energy | Energy of moving electrons |
| absorption | The transfer of light energy transported by light waves to particles of matter. |
| scattering | An interaction of light with matter that causes light to change its energy, direction of motion, or both. |
| medium | A substance through which a wave can travel by vibrating particles in the material. |
| infrared | Electromagnetic energy that has a lower frequency than visible light and is beyond the color of red on the light spectrum. |
| infrared radiation | Waves of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths that are slightly longer than the wavelengths of red visible light |
