| flight of ideas | fast speech that has understandable associations between topics |
| derailment | aka loosening of association; ideas go off track with no relation |
| blocking | interruption in the train of thought |
| circumstantiality | includes irrelevant details and parenthetical comments but go back to main point |
| tangentiality | looses thread and pursues irrelevant ideas but doesn't go back to main point |
| word salad | complete incoherent connection of thought |
| clanging associations | associations by rhyming |
| neologisms | new words created by combination of words |
| obsessions | intrusive and repetitive |
| compulsions | things done over and over, repetitive |
| recent memory | what they ate for breakfast |
| immediate memory | repeating digits |
| recent past memory | important events |
| remote memory | childhood information |
| labile | fluctuating moods |
| euthymic | normal mood |
| global aphasia | loss ability to communicate |
