| Reactant | a substance that participates in a chemical reaction. |
| Product | a substance that forms in a chemical reaction. |
| Law of Conservation of Mass | The law that states that mass can neither be created or destroyed in ordinary physical and chemical changes |
| Endothermic Reaction | a chemical reaction that requires energy input, usually as heat |
| Exothermic Reaction | a chemical reaction in which energy is released to the surroundings , usually as heat. |
| Law of Conservation of Energy | The law that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be changed from one form to another. |
| Organic Compound | a covalently bonded compound that contains carbon. |
| Carbohydrate | a class of molecules that includes sugars, starches, and fiber; contains carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. |
| Hydrocarbon | an organic composed of only carbon and hydrogen. |
| Polymer | a large molecule that is formed by more than five monomers, or small units. |
| Organic Acid | an organic chemical compound that contains one or more carboxyl groups; examples are acetic and lactic acid. |
