Chemical Reaction The process in which atoms are rearranged and chemical bonds are broken and formed to produce a chemical change of a substance
Chemical Formula A combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance
Chemical Equation A representation of a chemical of a chemical that uses symbols to show the relationship between the reactants and the products

Law of Conservation of Energy The law that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be changed from one form to another
Organic Compound A covalently bonded compound that contains carbon
Hydrocarbon An organic compound composed only of carbon and hydrogen
Organic Acid An organic chemical compound that contains one or more carboxyl groups
Carbohydrate A class of molecules that includes sugars, starches, and fiber; contains carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen
Polymer A large molecule that is formed by more than five monomers, or small units
