What do anti-coagulants target? thrombosis; excessive hemostasis
What side effect do all anti-coagulants have? increased bleeding risk
What is blood hemostasis? regulated process of maintaining blood fluidity, repairing vascular injury and limiting blood loss
What are 4 ways the body maintains hemostasis? local vasoconstriction, primary hemostasis/platelet plug, secondary coagulation/thrombus, and fibrinolysis/degradation of blood clot
Primary Hemostasis in response to vascular injury: subendothelial matrix proteins are exposed
What is Thromboxane A2 synthesized from? By what? arachadonic acid by COX-1
What is TXA2? a potent vasoconstrictor and platelet activator
The conformational change in the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor results in? fibrinogen binding
