citation a note within a sentence/ paragraph indicating that information has come from an outside source
audience the intended reader or viewer of a research product
purpose the author's intended result in addressing the audience
primary source first-hand original information
plagiarism summarizing
paraphrase information from a source that has been re-phrased in the second writer's own words while keeping most of the author's ideas
summary material originating from a resource that has been processed
direct quote the exact words used from a source that appear in a product; must be put in quotation marks and credited according to MLA or APA style
works cited a list of all sources you have documented in your paper
validity the trustworthiness of a text based on the credentials of the author
