| Term | Definition |

| aside | lines spoken by a character in which only one or no other character is supposed to hear. |
| couplet | a pair of rhyming lines |
| dialogue | talk or conversation in a story |
| epilogue | lines at the end of the play that serve as final commentary on the play |
| monologue | when a character make a long speech and monopolizes the conversation. |
| prologue | lines at the beginning of the play that introduces conflict |
| soliloquy | speech in which a character expresses his/her inner thoughts and no one else but the audience is meant to hear. |
| Stage Direction | set of instructions written into a play that outlines characters' actions |
| tragedy | literature of a serious tone in which the main character comes to an unhappy end. |
