Name several different types of magnets. bar, horseshoe, ceramic, plastic, donut
What are magnetic poles? the ends of the magnets where the magnetic force is the strongest
What does repel mean? to push away
Which poles repel? Like poles (north-north and south-south)
What does attract mean? move toward
Which poles attract? opposite (north-south)
What is an electromagnet? a temporary magnet formed when an electric current passes through an insulated wire that is wrapped around an iron core
Name 3 factors that affect the strength of an electromagnet. number of coils, voltage of battery, number of batteries, thickness (diameter) of the wire, thickness (diameter) of the core
