NF Text Features

Non-Fiction Text Features - Study for Kahoot quiz (graded)

TermDefinition
Titles tell what a book, article, or chapter is called.
Text Features are things found in non-fiction texts and materials that help you make sense of what you're reading.
Subtitles give more information about the title.
Table of Contents tells what page each chapter or section begins.
Charts, graphs, and tables organize data and statistics to make them easier to read.
Captions give more information about photographs and illustrations.
Diagrams are simple drawings that show the parts of something or how it works.
Labels show what the parts in a diagram are called.
Maps show where something is located
Timelines show the order of when things happened and are often used with historical events.
Bold words have dark, heavy letters and are used to draw attention to important words.
Italics are slanted letters in words that are used to draw attention to important words.
Glossary is like a mini-dictionary that gives definitions of key words in the book.
Index is usually found on the very last pages in a book, and it tells on which pages important information or key words can be found. It is listed in alphabetical order.
