Term | Definition |

Atom | the smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element. |
Element | a substance that can't be separated or broken down into simpler substances by chemical means |
Compound | a substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds |
Mixture | a combination of two or more substances that aren't chemically combined |
Pure Substance | a sample of matter,either a single element compound,that has definite chemical or physical properties. |
Heterogeneous | describes something that doesn't have a uniform structure or composition throughout |
Homogeneous | describes something that has a uniform structure or has composition throughout |
Solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
Liquid | the state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape |
Gas | a form of matter that doesnt have a definite volume or shape |
Freezing | the change of state from a liquid to a solid |
Melting | a change of state from a solid to a liquid |
Evaporation | the change of state from a liquid to a gas that usually occurs at the surface at the liquid over a wide range of temperatures |
Boiling | the change of state from a liquid to a gas that occurs at a specific temperature. |
Condensation | the change of state from a gas to liquid |
Sublimation | the change of state from a solid directly to a gas |
Depositation | the change of state from a gas directly to a solid |
