| Atom | The smallest unit of an element that maintain the properties of that element. |
| Pure Substance | a sample of matter either a single element or a single compound that has definite chemical and physical properties |
| Element | A substance that cannot be separated or broken down into simpler substances by chemical means. |
| Heterogeneous | Describe something that does not have a uniform structure or composition throughout. |
| Compound | A substance made up of atom of two or more different elements joined by chemical bond. |
| Homogeneous | Describe something that has uniform structure or composition throughout. |
| Mixture | A combination of two or more substance that are not chemically combined. |
| Solid | The state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
| Liquid | The state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape. |
| Gas | A form of matter does not have a definite volume or shape. |
| Freezing | The change of state from liquid to solid. |
| Condensation | The change of state from gas to liquid. |
| Melting | The change of state from a solid to a liquid |
| Sublimation | The change of state from directly toa gas. |
| Evaporation | The change of state from liquid to a gas that usually occurs that the surface of a liquid over a wide rang of temperatures. |
| Deposition | The change of state from a gas directly to a solid. |
| Boiling | The change of state to liquid to gas that occurs at a specific temperature. |
