Pharmacognosy Study of drugs derived from herbal anf other natural sources
The terms medication and medicine refer to Drugs mixed in a formulation with other ingrediants to improve the stability, tast or physical for to allow appropiate administration of the active drug
Pharmacology deals with ALL of the drugs in society. ( legal, Illegal, percription and OTC)
What is the most commen body fluid used to characterize that pharamocologic action of drugs? Blood
What are the factors that influence the onset, duriation and tensity of drug effects? Absorbtion, metabolism, excretion, site of action and absorbed response.
Factors that affect drug actions are Age, sex Body weight, diurnal body rythems , distress, allergies, physcological factors, drug half life, tolorence, drug toxicity and drug interaction
Drug half-life major determinig factor in how often a drug may be given
Age age effects metabolic rates
Sex Drugs that administered IM are absobed faster by men than women. These drugs remain in womans tissue longer because women have a higher body fat content
Body weight The same doses of medication can be varied affects on patients whose body weight differ. Some medication doses must be adjusted based on body weight and body surface area especially in children
Diurial body rhythems Cicadian Rhythem or sleep patterns have a tendency to intensify a patients response to a medication.
Disease Especially of kidneys and liver. The liver is the major site for detoxification and the kidneys are that major site for elimination of chemical substances. A person with live or kidney disease may respond to a medication differently then a healthy person.
