Sentence Structure
| Dangling | Definition |
|---|---|
| Simple Sentence | contains one independent clause and no dependent clauses |
| Compound Sentence | contains two or more independent clauses and no dependent clauses |
| Coordinating Conjunctions | words like for, and, nor, or, but, so, or yet (FANBOYS) that join independent clauses |
| Complex Sentence | contains one independent clause and one or more dependent clause |
| Subordinating Conjunction | relates the dependent clause to the independent clause using words like this: after, because, if, since, until, unless, while |
| Compound-Complex Sentence | contains two or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses |
| Dangling Modifier | a word or phrase apparently modifying an unintended word because of its placement in a sentence |
| Clause | a part of a sentence that has its own subject and verb |
| Phrase | a group of two or more words that expreses a single idea but does not usually form a complete sentence |
| Modifier | a word or phrase that describes another word or group of words |
| Misplaced Modifers | a word or word group whose placement suggests that it modifiers one word or phrase when it s intended to modify another |
