Force A push or pull
Newton The SI unit force is measured in
Net Force Combination of all forces acting on a object
Unbalanced Forces Cause velocity of an object to change
Balanced Forces Equal forces acting on one object in opposite directions
Friction 2 surfaces exert pressure on each other
Static Friction Friction that acts on objects that are not moving
Sliding Friction Happens when 2 solid surfaces slide over each other
Rolling Friction When an object rolls across a surface
Fluid Friction When a solid object moves through a fluid
Gravity A force that pulls objects towards each other.
Mass The measure of the amount of matter in an object
Weight Gravitational force exerted on an object at the surface of a planet
Free Fall The only force acting on an object is gravity
Air Resistance Acts on objects falling through air
Projectile An object thrown
Compression An elastic force that squeezes or pushes matter together
Tension An elastic force that stretches or pulls matter
Inertia The tendency of an object to resist a change in motion
Momentum A characteristic of a moving object that depends on both mass/velocity of an object
Law of Conservation of Momentum States that the absence of outside forces, the total momentum of objects that interact does not change
Satellite Any object that orbits another object in space
Centripetal Force Any force that causes an object to move in a circular path
