connotation (noun) the words, ideas, images, and feelings that we associate with a word
independent (adjective) an independent clause is a group of words that can stand alone because it has a subject, a predicate (verb) and it expresses a complete thought, something that is independent is able to stand alone/support itself
dependent (adjective) something that relies on another element in order to be considered complete a dependent clause, for instance, relies on the independent clause to be a sentence
bio root; life
logo/logos/ology root; study of word speech
graph root; written, record, writing
sym/sim prefix; with, together, same
synthesis noun; the process of bringing different ideas together to form a single idea or statement
simile noun; a simile is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, showing similarities between two things to make a point or describe something creatively by saying one thing is LIKE another thing or something is as big, small, happy etc. AS something else
morphology noun; morphology is the study of how words are put together; just like biology is the study of life, morphology is the study of the "parts" of language/words
compound adjective; a compound is really just something that is made up of two or more other things. A compound adjective, for example, is two adjectives that act as a single idea

phrase a group of words that are related conceptually (theme/idea) but not grammatically complete (missing subject, predicate, or both); a phrase is generally a component of a clause

subject a noun (or a word or phrase that functions as a noun); the focus of the sentence; the person or thing doing the action (or "being" as in existing)
predicate the part of the sentence that describes what the subject is doing (even if the action is a state of being ie: existing)
