Motion The state in which one object’s distance from another is changing
Reference point A place or object used for comparison to describe the position or motion of a person or object
Distance The length of a path between two points
Displacement The length of a straight line between starting and ending points
Scalar Measurements that have magnitude or size only
Vector A measureable quantity that consists of both a magnitude and a direction
Speed The distance the object travels per unit of time
Velocity The speed in a given direction
Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes with time
Work When an object is caused to move a certain distance
Energy The ability to work or cause change
Kinetic Energy The energy and object has due to its motion
Potential Energy Stored energy that results from the position or shape of an object
Gravitational Energy potential energy related to the object’s height
Elastic Energy The potential energy of an object that can be stretched or compressed
Mechanical Energy An object’s combined kinetic energy and potential energy
Law of Conservation of Energy energy can not be created or destroyed
