| Motion | The state in which one object’s distance from another is changing |
| Reference point | A place or object used for comparison to describe the position or motion of a person or object |
| Distance | The length of a path between two points |
| Displacement | The length of a straight line between starting and ending points |
| Scalar | Measurements that have magnitude or size only |
| Vector | A measureable quantity that consists of both a magnitude and a direction |
| Speed | The distance the object travels per unit of time |
| Velocity | The speed in a given direction |
| Acceleration | The rate at which velocity changes with time |
| Work | When an object is caused to move a certain distance |
| Energy | The ability to work or cause change |
| Kinetic Energy | The energy and object has due to its motion |
| Potential Energy | Stored energy that results from the position or shape of an object |
| Gravitational Energy | potential energy related to the object’s height |
| Elastic Energy | The potential energy of an object that can be stretched or compressed |
| Mechanical Energy | An object’s combined kinetic energy and potential energy |
| Law of Conservation of Energy | energy can not be created or destroyed |
