Motion chapter 9

Motion When a distance between objects are changing.
Reference Point A place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion
Distance The length of a path between two points.
Displacement The length and direction that an object has moved from its starting point.
Scalar Without direction
Vector A quantity that consist of both a magnitude and a direction
Speed the rate at which someone or something is able to move or operate
Velocity the speed of something in a given direction.
Acceleration increase in the rate or speed of something.
Energy The ability to do work or cause change
kinetic energy Energy that an object has due to its motion
potential energy stored energy that results from the position or shape of an object
gravitational energy Potential energy related to an object's height
elastic energy the energy of compressed or stretched objects
mechanical energy Kinetic or potential energy associated with the motion or position of an object
conservation of energy The rule energy cannot be created or destroyed
Work Force exerted on an object that causes it to move
