| Analogy | a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based |
| Audience | the group of spectators at a public event; listeners or viewers collectively, as in attendance at a theater or concert |
| Bibliography | a list of source materials that are used or consulted in the preparation of a work or that are referred to in the text. |
| Citation | the act of citing or quoting a reference to an authority or a precedent. |
| Clarify | To make (an idea, statement, etc.) clear or intelligible; to free from ambiguity. |
| Coherent | logically connected; consistent |
| Compare | to examine (two or more objects, ideas, people, etc.) in order to note similarities and differences |
| Contrast | to compare in order to show unlikeness or differences; note the opposite natures, purposes, etc. |
| Conclusion | the last main division of a discourse, usually containing a summing up of the points and a statement of opinion or decisions reached. |
| Document | a written or printed paper furnishing information or evidence, as a passport, deed, bill of sale, or bill of lading; a legal or official paper |
| Draft | a drawing, sketch, or design |
| Edit | to collect, prepare, and arrange (materials) for publication |
| Essay | a short literary composition on a particular theme or subject, usually in prose and generally analytic, speculative, or interpretative. |
| Footnote | an explanatory or documenting note or comment at the bottom of a page, referring to a specific part of the text on the page. |
| Introduction | a formal personal presentation of one person to another or others. |
| Metaphor | a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, as in âA mighty fortress is our God.â |
| Paragraph | a distinct portion of written or printed matter dealing with a particular idea, usually beginning with an indentation on a new line. |
| Paraphrase | a restatement of a text or passage giving the meaning in another form, as for clearness; rewording. |
| Research | diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover or revise facts, theories, applications, etc. |
