main idea and citing text evidence

| objective | not influenced by personal feelings or interpretation |
| explicit | leaving no doubt about the meaning (as in a clear statement) |
| support | to back up a point you are making |
| text evidence | information from a source that supports your answer |
| central/ main idea | the main point an author is making |
| claim | a statement about something |
| paraphrase | using your own words to express someone else's message or ideas |
| analysis | the explanation of something |
| plagiarism | using someone else's exact words or ideas without giving them credit |
| direct quote | information taken word for word from a source |
| summary | a short statement that gives the main points or ideas of something |
| theme | the main idea or underlying meaning in literature |
| cite | to tell where your information came from |
| clarify | to clear up confusion; to make more clear or understandable |
| inference | a conclusion based on clues from the text |
