QuestionAnswer
Ovum Sex cell, Gamate. An egg within a follicle in the ovary. A mature ovum is released during ovulation.
Estrogen Secreted by the ovaries. Produces the secondary female sex characteristics (broadening of pelvis, soft/smooth skin, pubic hair, breasts, fat butt, sexual desire, ovulation, menstration)
Ovaries Female gonads that are small, almond-shaped glands, located in the pelvic cavity and attached to the uterus.
Perineum The area between the vagina and the anus.
Fallopian Tube Attached to uterus. Serves as a passage way for ovum to reach the uterus. Conception takes place in outer third. Catches the ovum as it is released with fingers creating a current
Endometrium Inner layer of the uterus.
Menstruation Begins at menarche (first cycle) and ends with menopause (last cycle). Lasts approx 28 days per cycle. Menstruation is the 4th cycle in the menstrual cycle.
Zygote Cell that is the product of the union of sperm adn an ovum, has 46 chromosomes. Plants in uterus 6 days after ovulation.
Vulva External genitalia-mons pubis, labia majora (large lips), labia minora, and vestibule
Vagina Collapsible muscular tube connecting the cervix with the outside.
Ovulation 2nd phase of the menstrual cycle. When the matured ovum is released.
Gonads The female sex glands, Ovaries?
Follicular Phase First phase of the menstrual cycle. Matures the follicle bringing about ovulation and secreting estrogen
Crowning Head escapes from the vagina
Mammary Glands Breasts
Meconium The first stools passed by a neonate.
Clitoris Two small columns of erectile tissue that produces sexual arousal when stimulated.
Parturition Labor and childbirth
Neonate A newborn who is between 38 and 42 weeks. Prior to this would be a premature neonate.
APGAR scoring Assesses a newborns condition following delivery at one and five minutes.
