What are some emergency situations? Stroke, Bleeding, Burns, Shock, Fractures, Poisoning, Sudden illness from fainting or falling, Illness related to heat and cold, Heart attack, Choking or breathing crisis
What do you do when you respond to an emergency? Assess the situation, Assess the vicitm, act quickly, check for universal emergency medical identification symbol
What does ABCD stand for? A-Airway, B-Breathing, C-Circulation, D-Defibillation
When can you leave an emergency? When EMS arrive, When patient is consciencous, when situation becomes too dangerous.
What is the Good Samaritan Law? It provides some legal protection to healthcare professionals, generally protects off-duty healtcare professionals, act as resaonable and prudent individuals who provide care only within the scope of their abilities.
What are some symptoms of shock? restless, irritable, weakness, dizziness, thirst, or nausea, skin cool, clammy and pale, pulse weak and rapid, blood pressure is low, cyanosis of lips, eys, fingernails (when they are blue), dilated pupils and lack luster eyes
What is the treatment for shock? Loosen clothing, check airway/breathing, control bleeding, warm the victim, elevate legs about 12 inches unless you suspect head injury, spinal injury or broken bones involving hips or legs, do not give fluid or food
What are some types of open wounds? Abrasions-scrapes, Avulsion-skin is torn off, Incisions-knife or cut glass, Lacerations-deep tissue tear, Punctures-nails, sharp object
Bleeding Control with a constriction band, not a tourniquet, it should be applied tight enough to sten blood flow, but allow for a pulse to be felt distally
Types of Burns First Degree, Second Degree, Third Degree`
Dressings and Bandages Dressings- sterile wond coverings,
