Academic Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
RHYME a poem in which some of the verses end with the same sound
RHYME SCHEME the pattern of rhyming lines
VERSE a line of poetry
FREE VERSE the verses of the poem do not rhyme
STANZA groups of lines in poems
METER the poem's pattern of sounds
INTERNAL RHYME a rhyme within the same line or verse
POETRY a type of writing that uses figurative language to express ideas, emotions, and images
POETIC STRUCTURE this is the way the poem is put together
SOUND EFFECT any sound, other than music or speech, artificially reproduced to create an effect in a dramatic presentation, as the sound of a storm or a creaking door.
