| Scientific Inquiry | Different ways scientists study the natural world |
| Hypothesis | A possible answer to a scientific question or explanation for a set of observations |
| Parameter | A factor that can be measured in an experiment |
| Manipulated Variable | The one purposely changed variable parameter |
| Responding Variable | The variable parameter that's expected to change because of the manipulated variable |
| Controlled Experiment | An investigation in which only one parameter is changed at a time |
| Data | Facts, figures, and other evidence gathered through observations |
| Communicating | Sharing conclusions and ideas with others through writing and speaking |
| Model | A picture, diagram, computer image, or other representation of an object or process. |
| Qualitative data | Data that can be recorded as notes. |
| Quantitative data | Data that consists of measurements |
| Scientific theory | A well tested explanation for a wide range of observations or experimental results |
| Scientific law | A statement that describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions |
| Science | The study of the natural world |
| Observing | Using one or more senses to gather information |
| Inferring | When you explain your observations |
| Predicting | Making a forecast on what will happen in the future based on past experience or evidence |
| Chemistry | The study of the properties of matter and how matter changes |
| Physics | The study of matter, energy, motion, and forces, and how they interact |
| Graph | A picture of your data |
| Horizontal Axis | Graph line that runs left to right |
| Vertical Axis | Graph line that runs up and down |
| Origin | The point where 2 axes cross |
| Coordinate | A pair of numbers used to determine the position of a graph |
| Data Point | Shows the location of the intersection of data. |
| Line of Best Fit | Reflects general pattern of a graph |
| Linear Graph | A graph where data falls along a straight line. |
| Non-Linear Graph | A graph where data doesn't fall along a straight line |
| Slope | The steepness of the graph line. |
