Properties of matter

Magnetism The ability to attract to iron, nickle or cobalt
Solubility The ability of a substance to dissolve when mixed with another substance
Classify To sort objects into groups that are alike in some way
Gas A state of matter that does no have a shape of its own/particles are far apart
Liquid A state of matter that takes up the shape of its container/particles slide past one another
Solid A state of matter that has a definite shape/particles are close together and vibrate
Physical Property A characteristic/description of a substance that can be observed or measured without changing the substance
Insulator of Electricity The ability to keep electricity in place using rubber, or plastic
Buoyancy A substances ability to float
Relative Density Determines whether a substance will sink or float in another substance
Mass The amount of matter (stuff) in a substance
Temperature The measure of movement of particles (atoms) in a substance
Volume The amount of space something takes up
Insulator of Thermal Energy The ability to keep heat in using styrofoam, plastic or rubber
Conductor of Thermal Energy The ability to allow heat to flow through it
Conductor of Electricity The ability to allow electricity to flow through it
