Science Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Independent Variable The variable in an experiment that is tested.
Qualitative Observation Use your senses to observe results. (sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear)
Quantitative Observation Observations that are made with instruments such as rulers, balances, graduated cylinders, beakers, and thermometers.
Metric unit of Temperature Degree Celsius.
Controlled Variable The variable in an experiment that stays the same.
Metric unit of Length Meter
Dependent Variable The variable in an experiment that shows the results.
Metric unit of Mass Gram
Metric unit of Volume Liter
Metric System A system of weights and measures based on the meter and on the kilogram.
Scientific Investigation The way in which scientists and researchers use a systematic approach to answer questions about the world around us.
