Observing Using one or more senses to gather information
Inferring Making an inference
Predicting Making a forecast on what will happen in the future based on past experience or evidence
Chemistry The studies of the property of matter and how matter changes
Physics The study of matter, energy, motion, and forces and how they interact
Scientific Inquiry The different scientists study the natural world
Hypothesis A possible answer to a scientific question or explanation for a set of observations
Parameter A factor that can be measured in an experiment
Manipulated Variable The variable that is purposely changed during an experiment
Responding Variable the variable that is expected to change in results to the manipulated variable

Data the facts, figures, and other evidence gathered through observations
Communicating the sharing of ideas and conclusions with others through writing and speaking
Model a picture, diagram, computer image, or any other representation of the process
Scientific Theory a well-tested explanation for a wide range of observations or experimental results
Scientific Law a statement that describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions
Graph a "picture" of your data
Horizontal Axis The line on a graph that runs left to right
Vertical Axis The line on the graph that runs up and down
Origin The point where two axes cross
Coordinate A pair of numbers used to determine that position of a point on a graph
Data Point The point showing the location of that intersection
Line of Best Fit A smooth line that reflects the general pattern of a graph
Linear Graph A line graph in which the data points yield a straight line
Slope The steepness of a line graph
Nonlinear Graph A line graph in which the data points do not fall along a straight line
Quantitative The type of data that consists of measurements
Qualitative The type of data that can be recorded in a journal or log, and they don't contain any numbers
