analyze | examine methodically and in detail, typically for the purposes of explanation and interpretation |
apron | a protective garment worn over the front of one's clothes and tied at the back |
conclusion | the final judgment or decision reached by reasoning at the end of a process or event |
control group | the factor being tested is not applied so that it may serve as a standard for comparison against another group where the factor is applied |
data | facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis |
empirical evidence | based on or verified by observation or experience rather than theory or pure logic |
experiment | a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact |
eye wash station | a place where a cleansing solution for a person's eye is located |
fire blanket | a large blanket-like piece of fire-resistant material |
fire extinguisher | an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires |
goggles | protective eye wear |
hypothesis | a proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation |
inference | a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning |
investigation | formal or systematic examination or research |
law (scientific law) | a statement about an observed phenomenon or a unifying concept |
measurement | The dimension, quantity, or capacity determined by a set system, such as metric |

model (scientific model) | an item used as an example to show or demonstrate |
observation | a remark, statement, or comment based on something one has seen, heard, or noticed |
outcome (dependent ) variable | a variable whose value depends on that of another variable; it is what will be measured |
predict | say or estimate something specified that will happen in the future |
repetition | the action of repeating |
replication | the action of copying or reproducing something |
scientist | a person who is studying or has expert knowledge of one or more of the natural or physical sciences |
scientific model | a scientific activity, a method of procedure that has characterized natural science, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses |
scientific problem | something in which an experiment can be used to help understanding |
technology | machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge |
test (independent) variable | is what is varied during the experiment; it is what the investigator thinks will affect the other variable |
theory | a well-established explanation for scientific data |
trials | a test of variables such as the performance, qualities, or suitability |
valid | producing the desired result |
