A baby boy is born and given to pediatrician.
He is initially limp with weak respiratory efforts
After 30 seconds of drying and tactile stimulation, baby begins to scream loudly. He is long and skinny and moving his extremities
After 1 minute of life his RR = 60 bpm R = Respiratory Effort score = 2
and his HR = 160 bpm P = Pulse score = 2
Baby is kicking and screaming actively A = Activity (Muscle Tone) score = 2
He pulls away from stimulation G = Grimace (Reflex irritability) score = 2
His hands, feet and lips are Blue A = Appearance score = 1
At 3 minutes of life - you begin slowly removing O2 from his face and are able to turn it off at 4 minutes without his cyanosis returning.
At 5 minutes, baby is crying loudly, moving his extremities with and without stimulation . His RR = 60 bpm and HR = 150 bpm PGAR Score = 8
His lips, hands and feet are all pink A = Appearance score = 2
Total Score total score = 9 total score = 10
