Direct and Indirect

a is directly proportional to b. If b doubles what happens to a? a doubles
a is inversely proportional to b. If b doubles what happens to a? a halves
a is proportional to b, a=5 when b=8. What would a be if b=12? 12÷8 = 1.5 5×1.5 = 7.5 a = 7.5
a is proportional to √b, a=10 when b=16. What would a be if b=36? √16 = 4, √36 = 6 6÷4 = 1.5 a = 10×1.5 = 15
a is proportional to b³, a=20 when b=2. What is a when b=5? 2³ = 8, 5³ = 125 125÷8 = 15.625 a = 20×15.625 = 312.5
a² is proportional to b, a=4 when b=10. What is a when b=20? 4² = 16 20÷10 = 2 a² = 16 × 2 = 32 a = √32 = 5.66
